21 Day Touching Africa Adventure

Day 1: Arrival Johannesburg International Airport ‐ SA

  • Wild at Heart welcomes you on the greatest adventure of a life time. We catch a morning flight from Durban to Johannesburg where you can sit back and relax and let the fun begin.
  • Once landed at OR Tambo in Johannesburg we head  for a visit to the Cradle of Humankind one of the Heritage sites in South Africa. The Cradle of Humankind was declared a World Heritage Site in 1999 because of the area’s exceptional contribution to our understanding of humankind’s history and development, over more than 3‐million years. All together, there are 15 major fossil sites in the Cradle of Humankind, of which the Sterkfontein Caves is the most famous. The fossils “Mrs Ples” and “Little Foot” were both discovered here, as well as thousands more fossils of hominids, which are human ancestors, as well those of plants and animals. Our tour will include an underground boat tour as well as exploring the Sterkfontein caves where excavation is still taking place today.
  • After a great day of exploring the past we head for our comfortable backpackers  accommodation situated close to the airport in a small suburb of Johannesburg.

Once in the Delta, we join local villagers/guides on mokoros (two‐man dugout canoes) and begin our search for the abundance of wildlife that inhabits the Delta.
  • We also get involved in game walks, tracking different animals and learning their habits. This is a great opportunity to learn about the people of the area. Each two‐man mokoro has a polar or local guide who grew up in the area and lives in the local village from who you can hear
many interesting stories. We set up camp on an island in the Delta and enjoy an evening under the African skies. This is a unique opportunity to live under nature’s rules.
